Obviously the GSA worker, back in the 1970s, who tossed this remarkable 1883-CC silver dollar into the “Non-Uncirculated” group (it doesn’t have UNCIRCULATED on the plastic slab) was bothered by the otherwise lovely blush of sunset-gold toning around the work UNUM on the obverse. In the 21st century, NGC’s graders said “not a problem,” and awarded the coin its much-deserved MS-66 rating.

The obverse explodes with a glimmering white silvery brilliance one can only see on glorious “CC” Morgan dollars. Ms. Liberty’s cheek is ultra clean, and the fields surrounding the portrait are insanely free of distracting marks.

The abundant eye appeal continues on the reverse, which is all-white and has only several small contact marks visible in inconspicuous locations.
