This 1885-CC GSA silver dollar certified by NGC as MS-65 displays blazingly brilliant all-white lustrous surfaces. Well-defined details on all the highpoints add zest to this coin’s alluring eye appeal. Obverse contact marks are noticeably minimal. Only a small nick on the upper left obverse field (to the left of Lady Liberty’s forehead) and a string of practically invisible chafes running vertically on the central left field keeps this coin from receiving an MS-66 rating. The reverse, too, is borderline MS-66 quality. A small diagonal scratch to the right of the eagle’s head and a couple trivial lines to the right of the T in UNITED are the only ones barely detectable.

This piece compares creditably with many 1885-CC GSA silver dollars certified as MS-66. It is little wonder that CAC approved its MS-65 grade.
