An excellent strike and a vibrant appearance help compensate for the moderate number of abrasions on this accurately graded specimen of this semi-key date in the Carson City gold eagle series. One small reed mark, located between stars 6 and 7, is worth noting, as are the small ticks on the front of Ms. Liberty’s cheek, and the light scratch in front of her nose. There’s no question this coin was dipped at one time, although not to the point that would disqualify it from receiving a grade at a third-party service. At the end of the day, this coin offers a lot of bang for the buck.
