Examples of this scarcest date in a set of Carson City Morgan silver dollars are sought after in all grades. In the midrange of the circulated spectrum, collectors find specimens typically much more wholesome than those seen in Very Fine and below, yet without the luster (and pricier costs) of the ones in the About Uncirculated category. The PCGS XF-45 piece offered here delivers a handsome appearance for its grade.
The surfaces display an original quality that is very appealing to purists (i.e., those who prefer unaltered coins). Both sides retain a dusted appearance. Some might call it “crusty,” in a very positive sense. One can see traces of luster attempting to beam through the grayish-colored haze that gently hugs this coin up and down and side to side. Details on the highpoints on front and back display much definition, certainly as much seen on many AU-50 specimens.
This attractive example will splendidly fill the key-date slot in a “CC” Morgan dollar set.
