This amazing $10 gold piece is one small scrape on the obverse (in an obscure spot between Stars 5 and 6) away from a solid MS-65 condition rating—maybe even higher. Collectors are accustomed to seeing high quality examples of common date “S” Mint gold eagles, so this one won’t surprise most of them. It has that stunning look that exemplifies gold coin production at the Bay Area minting facility.
The surfaces display shimmering golden-orange color with wave upon wave of flashy luster. The bold details on all the raised devices look as if they were chiseled by a master sculptor in Ancient Greece. Except for the aforementioned scrape in the upper left obverse field, contact marks are practically non-existent. This coin’s reverse will take your breath away.
