This well preserved example of one of the key dates in the Mercury dime series beams forth a moderate amount of luster. The surfaces are mostly silvery-white-hazy-gray in color, with glimpses of what an AU-50 specimen might look like. Small speckles of auburn tint dot the field areas on both sides. And light circulation grime is blended in at certain spots.

The details on all of the raised devices are sharp, with nearly full definition visible on all of the vertical stripes in the fasces on the reverse. A typical quantity, for the grade, of small contact marks blend into the coin’s design elements, with none of them distracting except for the thin scratch that runs diagonally across Ms. Liberty’s cheek. This latter attribute causes us to give Liberty the nickname “Scarface.” Otherwise, this is a very attractive high-grade circulated 1921-D dime.
