Happy New Year Everyone!
It looks as if I am the luckiest Southgate staffer of all, because I get to post the first weblog for 2007. Hooray for me!
First off, I would like to thank you all for the endless get-well wishes concerning my horrible ordeal with getting my wisdom teeth out over the holidays and for my poor hurt ankle. But have no fear; I am finally back at work doing what I love the most. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers – it helped a lot.
Ok, ok, ok, enough about me already!
We here at Southgate kicked off the New Year with a HUGE bang! Smack-in-the-middle of the New Year’s Day edition of the Reno Gazette Journal was our very own leaders-of-the-pack, Rusty and Marie, being featured in a full page spread concerning the hottest topic of the New Year, you guessed it – coin collecting. (And of course a nice plug for our fabulous club, the Carson City Coin Collectors of America.) What a treat it was to have such a great article for our store in the newspaper. Kelsey and I often tease Rusty and Marie about their new stardom . . . "Uh oh! Lay out the red carpet; grab the camera; here they come again!"
2007 is already summing up to be yet another busy year for us. One of the most exciting things is of course getting Rusty’s new book, James Crawford: Master of the Mint at Carson City: A Short, Full Life, out to the masses in early spring. Every staff member here at the store plays a big part in helping to get the book finished. Our new motto seems to be "think, eat, and sleep the book." I must admit, at times you could cut the stress and tension with a knife. But I think that Marie put it best when she said that "it’s not comfortable when you are nine months pregnant, but once you get through it, you will find that it was worth it." Thanks Marie – you movie star you. As for me, I can’t wait for this book to be published either.
Well my friends that is it for now. I can begin to hear the voices of book editing calling my name once again. Thank you all for the continuous support from last year – and we look forward to it again this year. Please keep those emails, phone calls, and visits coming!
