Is it spring yet?

Hoping For Spring

Hello to our favorite weblog readers! Hope you all had a nice President’s Day weekend (and enjoyed the extra day off if you got it). We here at Southgate Coins have been busy trying to keep up with our jammed-packed schedules. If you have been tracking the daily gold and silver prices this week, you have a better understanding of where we are coming from. Let me tell you, people have been coming out-of-the-woodwork looking to sell off their American Gold Eagles and one hundred ounce silver bars (or doorstops as I call them) by the truck-full. And it doesn’t even stop there! People are bringing in anything that has traces of gold in it, in hopes of cashing in for some “big bucks.” I mean, over the past few weeks we have seen pure gold flakes that people have panned out of the Sacramento River, chain necklaces and bracelets, gold teeth from grandpa, and even parts of radio transmitters. And if you are anything like me, you are still stuck on the gold teeth part!

One exciting thing that I think you all should check out, is the additions we are posting on the “News and Articles” link, right here on our website. Our fearless leader Rusty Goe has been dutifully writing articles on different topics concerning numismatics for different news sites, and I want to be sure that our visitors get to read them too! So far, Rusty has published informational articles on topics such as:

  1. How coins from Carson City are more popular than ever
  2. How investors and collectors are fueling the current bull market in rare coins
  3. How a mistaken identity in 1883 was linked to famed Carson City Mint Superintendent James Crawford

But don’t take my word for it, go visit the “News and Articles” link on the homepage of our website for yourself and maybe learn a thing or two while you're at it. And be sure to keep checking for future additions, as we will continuously be updating that page.

One of my favorite holidays is quickly approaching in a month or so. I mean, any holiday where I can get my hands dirty by decorating hard boiled eggs in food coloring and where I get to play in the grass with my church dress on, is okay by me! Easter is a wonderful holiday to celebrate with friends and family, and the presents are always fun too. Don’t forget when you are hopping around from store-to-store looking to fill those Easter baskets, to stop by Southgate Coins. We have a lot of little items at the shop that are the perfect size to fit into any Easter basket and any hollowed-out plastic Easter egg. Both big and little kids will love to hunt for those plastic eggs when they know that there are some fun coins in the middle! So, forget filling those eggs with candy this year, and for about the same price, fill those eggs with coins – which by the way won’t throw your diet off track and will be around for lots more Easters to come.

In closing, I would like to say a big THANK YOU for the magnificent birthday weblog that my fellow staff members wrote to me for my 22nd birthday a couple weeks ago. I can’t tell you how much I love working here at the store, and with that weblog, it is evident why I love it so very much. I owe a lot to Rusty and Marie Goe and I would go to the ends of the world for them. I wish there was a more powerful word than love, because that’s what I feel for not only Rusty and Marie, but for my little Maya as well.

Until Next Time,

Amy
