Maya, our most experienced veteran here at Southgate Coins, just celebrated another birthday. This amazingly marks the fourth birthday for Maya since she started working at Southgate Coins.
Wow! Maya’s birthday kicks off a busy two weeks of birthday celebrations around here. After Maya’s comes Rusty’s, on the 21st, followed by Nicole’s on the 31st.
Read on for more of Maya’s 22nd birthday celebration.
Maya’s 22nd birthday celebration began when she arrived at work on Wednesday morning, May 19. She was welcomed with birthday decorations around her desk, highlighted by a beautiful basket from Rusty and Marie. The basket contained vibrant purple flowers, a small “Happy Birthday” balloon, and an adorable purple butterfly on a stick. Something a little more special was added to her basket as well.
Since this was Maya’s first birthday as a new mother, the bosses thought it was fitting to include a decorative desktop plaque in her basket. A poem was inscribed on the small plaque, which reads as follows:
I Have a Child
I have some toys
that are strewn around,
And new ways to see things
and hugs by the pound.
I have a puppy
some kittens and fish;
I have a child
A wonderful gift.
I have a dear that
holds onto my finger,
Melodies crooned
by an untutored singer.
Stories and secrets
and kisses for free;
For I have a child
Who will always have me.
Cara and I (Nicole) greeted Maya with birthday wishes as well when we arrived at work. We were joined by Dixie later in the day, around one o’clock, and as the day progressed, we all knew, especially Maya, what was fast approaching! Come on, it was only Maya’s fourth birthday at the store, haha! Now here’s Cara to fill in the details.
Around four o’clock it was time for the party. Nicole and I (Cara) helped Rusty get ready for the celebration, while Dixie helped customers, and Marie distracted Maya. When Rusty gave the signal, all the girls put on their party hats and Nicole started playing the birthday music. Since this was her fourth birthday here, Maya knew exactly what was happening and walked over with a big smile on her face.
Waiting in Italy (our name for a back-office work station) was a gorgeous white and purple birthday cake with cute little butterflies on top. After quite a few pictures with us and the cake, Maya blew out the candles in one try and it was time for her to receive presents.
Us girls gave our presents first. We all chipped in and got Maya two purple candle holders with matching candles, a heart-shaped picture frame, and a gift card to Old Navy, one of Maya’s favorite stores. Rusty and Marie gave Maya a bright purple windbreaker, a necklace with a golden key on it, and a pink and brown make-up pouch filled with lip-gloss, eye shadow, and mascara. Maya was pleasantly surprised by all her gifts and sincerely grateful for all the thought that was put into them.
After presents it was time to eat cake. Rusty pulled out a big knife and began cutting it into pieces. It consisted of white butter cake with chocolate fudge in the middle and about an inch of yellow buttercream frosting on top. It was delicious.
After gobbling down cake it was time to wrap up the celebration. All the decorations were packed away for safe keeping until the next birthday. Even though it was her fourth birthday here at Southgate Coins, Maya was still pleasantly surprised, which means a job well done by the Southgate crew.
Once again, Happy 22nd Birthday Miss Maya! We hope you have many more very happy and healthy birthdays to come. You deserve it!
