The past two weeks have been filled with numerous celebrations, but there was still one May birthday to go. Nicole finally moved out of her teen years and turned twenty on May 31. Since her birthday fell on Memorial Day, the crew surprised her with a birthday party on Saturday, May 29.

Saturday morning, the store was decorated all around with “Happy Birthday” signs. Waiting at Nicole’s workstation was a gorgeous flower basket that Rusty and Marie had gotten for her. It had a two big, pink bows on it and was filled with beautiful, hot pink and red flowers. A “Happy Birthday” balloon floated above the basket, tethered by a pink ribbon. Our newest hire, Rebecca, and I (Cara) made sure to arrive at the store early so we could greet Nicole. We all greeted her with a “Happy Birthday” as she walked into the back of the store. She was delighted to see the basket and other decorations. As excited as we all were to begin celebrating we had to open the store and start our work for the day.
Thanks Cara.
All of the Southgate girls make efforts to find perfect gifts, and Nicole’s birthday was no exception, but it did pose a problem in actually finding that perfect gifts.
Cara and I (Maya) struggled for a couple weeks to find out on what Nicole wanted for her birthday. Cara did find out two things: 1) Nicole was fully stocked on Bath and Body Works products (apparently, she has enough to start her own franchise). 2) Nicole’s iPod car-adapter kit was broken, and she desperately wanted music back in her commutes.
We easily found a remedy to the no-music problem with a new iPod car adapter kit, but that one gift just wasn’t enough for someone as special and generous as Nicole. So, Cara and I also decided to get her a gift certificate to The Niche, a home décor and clothing store local to northern Nevada. When Nicole received this, she declared that she was headed to The Niche after work.
Then, Marie and Rusty presented Nicole with black, white, and pink flowered Coach flip-flops, a makeup bag (with makeup), and a girly martini glass adorned with red lipstick kiss-prints and Xs and Os. Nicole seemed thrilled with her birthday party and presents.
But what birthday celebration is complete without birthday cake? Nicole’s cake was deserving of its own weblog—it was double-layer, quarter-sheet white cake with butter cream frosting, and a big rainbow on top honoring her 20th birthday. Everyone agreed that it was delicious, and from the size of it, Nicole will be enjoying its decadence for some time!
Now, here are Southgate’s two newbies, Dixie and Rebecca, to offer their reflections on Nicole’s birthday:
Nicole was surprised when she saw me (Dixie) walk in that Saturday because I wasn’t scheduled to work. But, at Southgate we are full of surprises. Nicole’s birthday was the third that I have attended, and it was just as memorable as the others were. It was great to see Nicole’s face when she opened all of her wonderful presents and enjoyed her enormous cake.
Thanks Dixie. Here’s Rebecca:
Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long,” party hats, noisemakers, and a delicious cake were all part of a recipe for an awesome celebration. This is Rebecca, and Nicole’s birthday marked my second party at Southgate Coins. Although I knew we were going to have a party for Nicole, I did not know what to expect from it. I now know that birthdays will always be fun, and what happens during them will always be a welcomed surprise.
As always, the Southgate crew honors Nicole on this special occasion, and we hope to have many more parties in the future!
